TA Kingoms was released worldwide on some time around
the 25th of June it's official release date. Some stores got it in
as early as the 17th while other's had to wait until the 28th. |

|
Soon after TA : Kingdoms
release the
Official message board and TA / TAK fan sites were flooded with
complaints about the games slow running speed on their PIII 550 with
a 16mb TNT card. |
Well sorry guys, TA : Kingdoms will run
better on a PII 300 as long as you have a voodoo 2 card. As TA : Kingdoms is
written to make use of the Glide drivers rather than Direct3d. |
|
|
So once you have gotten TA :
Kingdoms up and running great
what can you expect? Great Battles, there are many missions to
challenge, skirmishes against up to 7 computer opponents making a
total of 8 players and then
online opponents whom should present a sizeable feast once you can
beat several Computer AI players. |
Can you say Super Visuals. Some
great detail has gone into this game. First thing you'll probably
notice is the fog of war. Which is randomly chosen from several
different types. There is one kind of fog which resembles clouds.
Which seems to look the best, but there are still many others to
feast your eyes on. |
|
|
The team at Cavedog
has also put a great amount of detail into everything from animation
to the rolling of the waves in the oceans. There is up to 6000 lines
of code for every single unit animation, which means that when those
dragons fly their wings flap. But not always the same way there are
multiple ways they can work giving even more realistic visuals. |
The sides are probably the most
balanced and varied of any Real Time Strategy game. You have 4 sides
to pick from.
Air - Zhon
Earth - Aramon
Water - Veruna
Fire - Taros
The sides may lead to to believe that water wouldn't be good on land
maps. Far from it on any type of map any side has an equal
opportunity. |
|
|
Not only are the sides balanced.
Each side has a completely different set of units each with its own
special characteristics. Apart from having a wide variety of units
and maps already as with the original Total Annihilation. TA :
Kingdoms will have downloadable units and maps, on both the cavedog
site and fan sites. |
For the original TA there was
over 500 units released for the game and it'll probably turn out the
same for TA : Kingdoms. There was also a similar situation for the
TA maps with over 1000 maps out there. Most being available at TAMEC.
There are allready numerous maps out on Fan Sites of TA :
Kingdoms. |

Apart from its Graphical additions
to the Real Time Strategy Genre TA : Kingdoms brings many new
features into the playing field. It adds a full screen radar map at
the touch of the Tab key. Multi-Weapons via the way of Magic Spells.
Along with being able to group your units, you are also able to put
them into formations and then make them stay that way.
The game's multiplayer has a small amount to answer for with no IPX
option. You have to muck around with setting up a TCP-IP game over
LAN. But apart from this multiplayer is rock solid. |
