The force is strong with
Star Wars Racer, it blends the star wars universe in with a fast
paced driving game. That portrays speeds of 450 - 950 Miles Per Hour
with extreme realism. You really feel like you're traveling at these
high speeds.
In the magical land of
star wars in a galaxy far far away. You race along in what is known
as a pod racer at speeds of up to 950Mph at an altitude of around 4 Meters.
With 25 tracks set on 8
different worlds there is a wide variation in the racing surface.
You'll race through prisons planets, barren desert worlds, slippery
ice planets and many other types. You'll find the Bantha Classic
hosted by Jabba the Hut a fun challenge. This level is remade of the
track Anakin and Sebula battle it out on. The Tusken Raiders even
fire their pesky shots at you. Other hazards include methane lakes,
meteor showers, avalanches and many more. The tracks also vary in
difficulty.
The training circuits
are incredibly easy and I fail to see how anyone could possibly come
any place other than 1st while tring. The
semi - pro and pro circuits add more to the competition with the
semi - pro circuits giving a Jedi master like myself more of a
challenge yet I still managed to get first easily. The harder Pro
circuits were more in my style, hard, fast and fun. The bantha classic
the last Pro stage is my personal favorite track. The invitational
races are somewhat difficult to get first on. But let me tell you
know. It is possible.
The sounds are
remarkable and really put you into the star wars mood. You have the
real voices of Episode 1 characters, the opening scene song. You
know the one where it goes "In a Galaxy Far Far Away".
The visuals are yet
another matter, with stunning 3D visuals of both voodoo 2 cards and
TNT or TNT2 cards. Perfectly incredible. Your input, you can use
keyboard, mouse, joystick, steering wheel. Even Force Feedback
steering wheels and joysticks. In my opinion, the best control
device is the Microsoft Force Feedback Precision Pro.
Multiplayer Star Wars
Racer is yet another experience you'll have to discover. Racing head
to head with your mates or someone on the net is something you have
to try to believe. Although the game runs painfully slow on the net
with 56k or slower, on LAN it runs superb. Since all you LAN going
friends will have bought the game they'll be no problem with the
need of a copy of the game in each computer. Although I would like
to have seen a spawn version avaliable.
