What is the big deal?

  • have an email address like elvis "at" rothbart.info
    (note: "at" used in place of the familiar email @ sign to foil the spammers!)
    • you'll have to get in quick in case someone else with your first name claims it first
  • have your own subdomain
    • elvis.rothbart.info or www.elvis.rothbart.info
    • as many sub-sub-domains as you like.
  • have as many email addresses under your sub-domains as you wish

How does it work?

  • Email
    • Directed to your existing email mailbox
    • You can have a catch-all mailbox which allows you to use a mailserver or filtering in Outlook, Pegasus or whatever mail program you use.
    • You can have individual mail addresses for each member of the family
    • If you change your internet service provider (ISP) you don't have to advise all your contacts of your new address - just change the email direction.
    • Have a generic address for when you have to give an email address on websites. This allows you to trace which website used your address for spamming. Also allows you to close down the address that is receiving spam
      • eg. *@mail.elvis.rothbart.info is directed to you standard mailbox
        • when you visit microsoft, give the addresss <microsoft@mail.elvis.rothbart.info>
          when microsoft starts spamming you, you know who to sue and you can then redirect that address to <bill.gates@microsoft.com>
  • Website
    • Use your sub-domain to create your own website.
      • You can either use the free space provided by your ISP or any other hosting service
        • Can use proper IP addresses
        • Can use cloaked forwarding - your domain name remains in the address bar
        • Can use transparent forwarding - actual address appears in the address bar
